Frequently Asked Questions about traveling to Italy
Frequently Asked Questions about Story Land & Sea®’s Italy small group tours.
Are we able to use cell phones in Italy?
Yes, but you will want to check with your provider. Rates calling and texting from/to Italy can be crazy so check first.
Will I need an electrical adapter in Italy?
Yes, and we recommend visiting our online store to see our recommendations. You can also pick one up from a travel store or from Wal-Mart®.
What kind of clothing should I pack?
Watch Mark Story's Italy: The Art of Travel for details on packing suggestions. But to help you out, here's a quick list:
Shirts - blouses. Depending on the season, consider bringing up to five short-sleeved or long-sleeved shirts or blouses.
Pants - shorts. We recommend bringing at least to pairs of pants (jeans, slacks) and one lightweight cotton and another super-lightweight pair for warmer seasons. Many travelers like lightweight convertible pants - shorts with zip-off legs. While not especially stylish, they’re functional in Italy, where you can use them to cover up inside churches while still beating the heat outside.
Underwear. We recommend about five sets, or opt for an extra bag and have a fresh pair for each day.
Shoes. We recommend a great pair of walking shoes with good traction. During sightseeing outings style is not as important as comfort. Then for evening outings you can dress up a bit.
Sweater - Fleece. Depending on season, and even in shoulder season in Italy, a warm sweater or fleece can be a friend. Go with darker versions to dress it up.
Jacket. Warmth is important but occasional rain showers might want you to have a hood. Most of our deluxe hotels will feature an umbrella.
Scarf. This is a great addition for both men and women. Changes your look while keeping your suitcase light.
Swimsuit. Most Italian hotels do not feature swimming pools, unless you're headed to the Amalfi Coast, Italian Riviera or a number of other beach locations in which case, pack a suit!
Should I get my money converted before my trip or when I arrive?
